Muriel & Keith, Phill and Mervyn in the 'Stork Castle' dance hall in Budapest.
No matter if you have been or have not been to Budapest, if you are
young or young in spirit, you are welcome.
Muriel Johnstone
has earned a reputation as one of the finest musicians currently
playing for Scottish Dance, both as a solo performer and with other
musicians. She has rightly been described as "A Keeper of Scottish
Tradition".
Keith Buchanan Smith is internationally renowned for performing,
broadcasting and teaching of classical and Scottish music. His
professional concert and teaching tours with fiddle and highland
bagpipes regularly take him to North America, Africa, Europe and Asia.
Keith is featured on many CD recordings for Scottish Country Dancing.
His home is in Ardnamurchan on the West coast of Scotland.
Phill Jones has been playing for Scottish Country Dancing for over 20
years. As well as playing for weekly dance classes in Central Scotland,
Phill also plays regularly for dances, balls and schools throughout
the UK and beyond.
Mervyn Short lives in Rustington, West Sussex on the south coast of
England with his partner John. He is a member of Berks/Hants/Surrey
Border Branch of the RSCDS. His interests include music, theatre,
travel, walking and of course Scottish country dancing. Mervyn started
Scottish country dancing nearly forty years ago and qualified as a
teacher three years later with the Imperial Society Teachers of
Dancing. Around the same time he also started Highland dancing and
after passing medal tests qualified to teach. He then taught children
and adults regularly at all levels. In 1995 Mervyn gained his RSCDS
Full Certificate. Since then he has taught at day and weekend schools
all over the UK, Europe, America, Australia, Canada and Japan. He also
regularly teaches at Summer & Winter Schools. In January 2016 he
retired so that he could devote more time to dancing. He is an
assessor for children's medal tests and tutors candidates for the
Society's teaching examinations. He is very keen to maintain the
technique and traditions of Scottish country dancing but appreciates
that it is an evolving dance form and in 2009 he published a book of
dances with an accompanying CD. Mervyn is currently on
Berks/Hants/Surrey Border Branch committee and serves on Education &
Training Committee at HQ in Edinburgh
